Animal Cruelty
Applicants Name: Pailey Wilner
Hometown: Cosmos, MN
Title of Art: Animal Cruelty Prevention
Materials Used: Paper, Pencil, Chalk, Blending tools
The issue I chose to address is the animal cruelty problem. I chose this because I have always had a tight bond with animals all of my life. The thought of people hurting an animal gives me chills. I believe that people who can be so cruel don’t have a heart. I am completely for putting an end to this cruelty. This issue has came up throughout social media sites. The pictures, videos, and descriptions of what humans are capable of are just awful. I portrayed my piece to be shocking and sad to look at. I tried to gain the emotion from the viewer. The most challenging part for me as an artist was to bring up all of the awful things us, humans do.
Maquette
Applicant’s Name: Pailey Wilner
Hometown: Cosmos, MN
Title of Sculptor: Palm Paradise
Type of Sculpture: Realistic
Your Sculptures Theme: Florida
Materials Used in your Maquette: Clay and Paint
Materials and construction techniques: I used a knife to help carve out the certain leaf texture
Artist Narrative: The idea behind my sculpture is to make the viewer think of warm sunny Florida weather. I experienced a slight difficulty to getting the leaves to stay hooked on but I managed well. The palm tree could enhance the community by projecting a warm weather feeling. When I see the sculpture I think of the beach, and the waves crashing down, with the sun beating down at 90 degrees.
Hakuna matata

This project dealt with printmaking. Throughout the project you had to be very precise on how you held your sculptor. If you wanted the lines deeper, then you push down harder. If you wanted the lines smaller and less defined, the less you push down your cutter. This project made me feel as if I could express myself in an easier way. If I wanted one piece to really stick out, I was easily able to do so. I picked the Lion King piece because it has always been my childhood favorite. Simba, Pumba, and Timone are the three main characters who go by the phrase, "Hakuna Matata, it means no worries for the rest of your days."

Word of art
Artist Statement
There are many different kinds of art. The art pieces always have a meaning behind them. Throughout this art project we were taught how to use words to express ourselves. Words form value throughout our lives by showing how we want to be seen rather than what the world makes of us. Every word forms its own relationship in this piece by carefully connecting the simple, yet dramatic lines. There are some works of art that go well with a describing piece. Although in the word project, the description is said within. Words included in the art challenge the way the human eye sees. Looking closely, the words are easily read. Looking at a distance, it looks like a simple picture. All types of words are important throughout the making of any art piece. “There is no confusion like the confusion of a simple mind.”- The Great Gatsby

technology into humans
Artist Statement
Technology works in all different ways. The entire world has become to revolve around it. Mankind has become one with technology and depends on it to survive. Without technology we wouldn’t be able to do the things we do today.
This project was able to show how technology has come alive within people and the things we use in our everyday life. In my project I used a webcam. The webcam is the “eye” to many. I also involved the ribs in as the structure to the webcam because it’s the same way humans are built. Inside the box I was able to use intestines. The reason I used them was because we as humans need them to survive, just like the webcam needs its wires to work. The ways technology works are getting more advanced by the minute.

The work of an artist reflects on the personality of each piece. When working on a self piece the artist is showing the viewers how they want to be seen. The identity of a person can be portrayed in many different ways through other peers eyes, but the one that matters the most is oneself. The value that comes from creating a portrait is much more than just taking a picture of oneself. The reason behind this conclusion can be looked at as, through creating your own piece you can add your own touches, or how you want things to look.
The piece I have created explains the way I feel about myself. I used a very colorful background, which shows how I see things in my life. Through all doubts, there is always another answer. I also created the word “Discover” in my background. This describes my drive to constantly try new things and succeed while doing them, as well as looking at things with a different purpose to change the outcome. I also consistently used different colors and shades throughout my face and hair. I wanted to produce the fact that nobody is perfect. Everyone has different types of skin, blemishes, and shaping of their own structure.
Throughout this project I didn’t want anything to be perfectly structured or put together. I want people to realize that nobody is better than anyone, but that everyone is perfect in their own ways.
